OPENING HYMN*
“When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder” #624

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH*
The Apostles’ Creed #691
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
    creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
    He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
    He descended to the dead.
On the third day He rose again.
    He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
    the holy catholic Church,
    the communion of saints,
    the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen.

SCRIPTURE* John 6:51-58
George Walker

51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”

52 Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

53 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”

Leader: This is the Word of God for the people of God.
People: Thanks be to God.

Annette Winn Backpack Blessings
Every school year our church family faithfully and graciously supports the students of Annette Winn Elementary School by donating food items for them to take home over the weekends. On Fridays, Annette Winn staff fills children’s backpacks with foods such as Grits, Pop Tarts, Oatmeal, Mac N Cheese, Cereal, Applesauce, Fruit Cups, Juice Boxes, Saltines, Soup, Ramen Noodles, Canned Tuna or Chicken, Beanee Weenees, Chips, Peanut Butter, Spaghetti and Meatballs, Pudding Cups, Apples, Oranges, Etc. Please bring items such as these to the church altar before worship service or to the church office during the week. This food drive will continue through Sunday, September 8th, when we will bless the food and then take it to Annette Winn during that week. Please consider supporting local children through this community outreach program.

Children’s Sunday School August 25th
Today was our 16th Children’s Sunday School class! This week we celebrated how far we’ve come over the last four months with a review game and fun prizes! So far, we have learned about the first eighteen books of The Old Testament and are memorizing the names of the books in order. The memory verse this week is 2 Timothy 3:16-17. We will meet again next Sunday, August 25th from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in the Children’s Wing. Please contact the church office if you would like to volunteer or teach in our Children’s Sunday School program!

Family Fun Night August 28th
Our Next Family Fun Night is on Wednesday, August 28th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. We will share a snack supper and play games. Invite a friend or neighbor!

Fall Festival September 14th
Mark your calendars for our Fall Festival happening on Saturday, September 14th from 11-4pm. This will be a fun fellowship event for our congregation and community. We are still working out the details for this event, but an inflatable bouncy house has been confirmed, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Polar Patrol Ice Cream Truck will be there, a live DJ will liven the atmosphere with music and dancing, and a petting zoo will be onsite from 11am-1pm! Food will be available for purchase, there will be a variety of crafts and games to play. Fishing booth, anyone? Stay tuned for further updates!

Volunteer Drivers
If you need transportation to and from Sunday morning worship, please contact Jane and Julian Carter at 678.378.8139. They have graciously offered to serve our church family in this ministry. If you are willing to help provide transportation to and from church on Sunday mornings, please contact the church office. Your help can make it possible for more people to join our Sunday worship. Thank you for your kindness and willingness to serve!
