Responsive Call to Worship*
Author: Kathryn Roelofs

On this day of celebrating mothers, we remember and lift up our mothers to the Lord.

Mothers of young children, first-time mothers, working mothers, and single mothers —

We see you and honor you today.

Grieving mothers who have lost a child too soon, and those who desire to be mothers —

We see you and honor you today.

All those who are missing their mothers, and mothers who are missing their children —

We see you and honor you today.

Mothers who did not give birth to us biologically, but have raised us and brought life to us in countless other ways —

We see you and honor you today.

In times of full joy and abundance, in times of empty nests and empty cradles, in all these God tends his flock like a shepherd and carries the lambs close to his heart.

As a mother comforts her child, so will God comfort us.

Hymn*
“How Great Thou Art”
Men of the Church

Affirmation of Faith*
The Apostles’ Creed
№ 691

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
   creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
   He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
   He descended to the dead.
On the third day He rose again.
   He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
   the holy catholic Church,
   the communion of saints,
   the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen.

Scripture*
Susan Savage
John 15:9-17

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.

I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.

This is my command: Love each other.”

Leader: This is the Word of God for the people of God.
People: Thanks be to God.

Community Night @ LSMC
Join us for Community Night at Lithia Springs Methodist Church on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays from 6:00–8:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall! This is a relaxed, welcoming time for all ages to come together — everyone is invited. We’ll share supper, enjoy games, get creative with crafts, and spend time building community. Mobile Food Pantry Ministry
Our Mobile Food Pantry, in partnership with the Atlanta Community Food Bank and the Good Samaritan Center of Douglasville, provides fresh food through a drive-through distribution at 2:00 PM. Volunteers are needed at 11:00 AM. Held every other month on the third Saturday (June 20, August 15, October 17, December 19). Contact the church office to help.

Children’s Church Volunteers Needed
Our Children’s Ministry is looking for volunteers who would be willing to serve occasionally in Children’s Church. Volunteers will lead the Bible lesson for the day, but all lessons will be provided in advance and all crafts and supplies will be prepared for you. This is a wonderful opportunity to help guide and encourage our children as they grow in their faith. Even serving periodically can make a meaningful difference. If you are interested in helping, please contact the church office or speak with Jess Arther.
