Elisha, The Trusting Tracker

This is What the Kids Learned Today in Sunday School!

Today in Sunday school, the children learned about Elisha, the Trusting Tracker, and how he demonstrated faith in God during frightening times. They discovered that even when we feel afraid, God is always with us, surrounding us with His protection—just as He did for Elisha and his servant.

Through interactive storytelling, activities, and scripture memory, the children were encouraged to trust God over fear and to replace anxious thoughts with the truth of God’s Word.

The Story of Elisha and the Invisible Army

(Based on 2 Kings 6:8–23)

Elisha was a prophet who followed God’s direction. Because of this, God would reveal to him the secret war plans of the enemy king, helping Israel stay safe. This made the enemy king very angry, so he sent a great army to capture Elisha in the city of Dothan.

One morning, Elisha’s servant woke up and saw a massive army of soldiers, horses, and chariots surrounding them. He was terrified! He ran to Elisha and cried out, “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?”

But Elisha was not afraid. He calmly told his servant,
“Don’t be afraid. Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
Then, Elisha prayed, “Lord, open his eyes so that he may see.”

In that moment, the servant’s eyes were spiritually opened, and he saw heavenly chariots of fire and an angelic army surrounding Elisha! God had sent His powerful protection all along, but the servant just couldn’t see it at first.

When the enemy approached, Elisha prayed, and God blinded the enemy soldiers! Instead of fighting them, Elisha led them away peacefully and even had them fed before sending them home. Because of this, the enemy king stopped attacking Israel!

What We Can Learn from Elisha

  1. God is Always with Us – Even when we feel scared or alone, God’s presence surrounds us, just like Elisha’s angelic army.
  2. Trust in God, Not Fear – Fear makes things seem bigger than they are, but faith reminds us that God is always greater.
  3. Overcome Fear with Truth – Just like Elisha encouraged his servant, we should fill our hearts with Bible verses to help us trust God when we are afraid.
  4. Respond with Kindness – Instead of revenge, Elisha showed kindness to his enemies, and it brought peace.

Memory Verse

“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.”
— Psalm 62:1–2
