From the Pastor
Happy Advent!
I want to thank those of you who have responded so far by giving
to the YearEnd
Offering. We have received $4,490 to date which
means we are about 1/3 of the way to our goal of $15,000! We’re
making progress, but we’re not there yet. Most people think their
gift will be insignificant and not help. That could not be further from
the truth. Powerful things happen when each person takes a
minute to ask God about what to give. Please pray about
participating and jump in with us.
There are several ways to make your gift:
1. Give online http://
2. Give in service Give
in service this weekend and put in memo

Pastor John
A Word from the Associate Pastor/ Youth
Minister (Angela):
My heart hurts and cries out for people of all
ages, races, and backgrounds. I have been
extremely quiet to express my thoughts. As I
discern and reflect with God, I am beginning to
believe that I have been “quiet for too long.” As
a campus minister, youth/associate minister,
and a child of God; I believe it is a part of my
call for justice to be expressed. As an African
American clergywoman, a lot has occurred in the media
concerning Mike Brown and Eric Garner. Truthfully, I was not there
and cannot say what I should have, could have, or would have
done. It is my intention to express my thoughts and to hopefully call
people to respectful dialogue around race.
The protesting and outcry has more to do with the built up anger
and frustration of systemic racism than it does with the death of
these two men. That is not to diminish their deaths but speaks to
the great need for dialogue around race. I believe police officers
deserve respect and I am grateful for the work they do. What I
want to express is in no way to be disrespectful towards officers or
demean the work they do. A conversation about how people
respond to police officers needs to happen, but right now there is a
much more pressing issue.
Keep in mind that slavery in the US ended less than 150 years
ago, segregation in schools was made illegal only 60 years ago,
and in other realms only 50 years ago. Even after segregation was
made illegal it continued for years after that and there were many
other civil rights struggles that continued and still continue today.
We still have much work to do for civil rights and racial
reconciliation. God is calling us to do work as the church. Whether
you agree or disagree with my thoughts, just know that God is
calling us to do more. What can you do?
I again would encourage everyone to reach out to someone of a
different race to have conversations about race in our nation. It
Please remember that

may feel uncomfortable to do so but is a discomfort that needs to
be felt. I invite people to share how they are working towards racial
reconciliation or for persons of color to share their own
experiences. If you would like to talk about it, then I invite you to
email me so that we can find a time to talk over the phone, or in
person, preferably over a shared meal or drink.
Blessings for the journey,
Rev. Angela Renee
