He retired in 2011 after a forty year career as a pastor in the North Georgia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He is a trained Interim Pastor and an Evangelist, and he’s a member of the National Association of United Methodist Evangelists (NAUME).
Dr. Howell has earned the following degrees: Bachelor of Arts Degree (A.B) from LaGrange College, Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) Brenau University, Master of Divinity (M.Div.) Emory University, and a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) from McCormick Theological Seminary. He earned a Certificate in Gerontology from Georgia State University, and he’s received training in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
In addition to his pastoral and evangelistic ministries he serves as the Region Chaplain for the Southeast Region of the United States Air Force Auxiliary (Civil Air Patrol) and holds the grade of Lt Col.
Jim and his wife, Julie, live in Atlanta with a very spoiled King Charles Cavalier Spaniel named Barney. Jim invites all of those in the area to visit with him and worship at LSUMC.
